My Tihar Experience

Tihar is a festival celebrated by Hindus. In this festival we lighten our house and clean it.  Among the Newars, it is popularly known as Deepawali or Swanti. The festival is celebrated from Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna to Kartik Shukla Dwitiya every year. Tihar in general signifies the festival of lights, where diyas are lit both inside and outside the houses to make it illuminate at night. The five-day festival is considered to be of great importance as it shows reverence to not just the humans and the Gods, but also to the animals like crows, cows and dogs who maintain an intense relationship with humans.

I also celebrated Tihar with great enjoyment. It was very fun to clean and lighten our houses. I enjoyed it a lot. I love this festival because in this festival everywhere there is clean and green surroundings and everywhere there is lights and it’s very bright.

Rangoli of my house
maha puja
In third day of Tihar I worshipped goddess Laxmi. In this day I helped my mother to clean the house. I also made Rangoli. The fourth day is popularly known as ‘Goverdhan Puja’ for others but for Newars it is especially known as ‘Maha Puja’. In this day we worship ourselves. So my grandmother did that. She worshipped all the family members and gave us sweets and fruits to eat.

Bhai Tika
On fifth day, popularly known as ‘Bhai tika’ I worshipped my brothers. I gave them fruits and some sweets and they gave some money. I collected almost Rs 2000 in total. So this Tihar I enjoyed a lot.
